🏏 Marble Hill CROSSBATS 236, BRITISH MUSEUM 121 1 🏏 Marble Hill CROSSBATS 236, BRITISH MUSEUM 121 10/08/2026 Saturday at HQ saw the British Museum arrive, requiring four generous Crossbats volunteers just to make up the numbers for the first 5 overs. 🏛️⏰ Craigo won the toss and chose to bat, cracking 36 off 27, while Rusty Reardon delivered a classy 42. Alan added a gritty 27, and Chai came agonisingly close to a magnificent fifty, finishing on 49. Snowball ensured the score stayed at 49. We assume this was revenge. 😂 Crossbats finished on a very competitive 236 from 35 overs. Then came the bowling. 🔥 Anuj: 4–32 — yorkers, wickets and absolute carnage. A deserved Man of the Match. 🐻 Samin: 1–18 from 5 miserly overs. 🎯 Will Cottee marked his debut with 2 wickets, including an outrageous inswinger that somehow swung around the batsman’s bottom and smashed middle stump. Bowled round the bottom. No idea how he did it. Neither did he. Chai also chipped in with the final wicket, caught brilliantly by Cottee at deep square on the boundary. Fielding highlights included excellent catches from Craigo, Anuj, Chai and Cottee… plus Akaash inventing a revolutionary new technique: the long belly. Forget getting behind the ball. Get your belly in front of it. 😂 The Museum were eventually skittled for 121, giving Crossbats a thumping 115-run victory. 💪 🍻 Post-match archaeological excavations at The Crown uncovered several beers, all of which were subsequently destroyed. On a pitch resembling the Serengeti, Anir lost the On a pitch resembling the Serengeti, Anir lost the toss and Crossbats were asked to field, much to everyone’s disappointment 🦁 BOWLING 🎯 Vijay & Shirley opened up front, Shirley striking twice early. Willows’ 1 & 4 then cashed in on a rapid outfield before Clive’s spell was cut short and the spin twins Tucker & Deoras turned the screw, choking the runs and picking up wickets. Sharp catches 🙌 and full-blooded diving stops kept the total in check. Craig & Anir chipped in with two apiece through the middle, before Vijay & Shirley returned for the finish — Vijay (2) and Shirley (1), the latter wrapped up by an ice-cool Anuj catch under a skier. Willows all out 183 — on a day 300 felt on the cards. 🥟 Tea: top marks to the oppo for homemade samosas. BATTING 🏏 Snowball & Dan flew out the traps, cashing in on that same fast outfield. Dan fell for a breezy 19, Anuj followed for a golden duck, then Snowball went the same way — all three misguidedly edging the short stuff that would have been a wide had they not hit it. Enter Winch (running mate Anuj in tow 😅) and Carter to settle things, until Carter holed out at mid-wicket. 🏏 Crossbats get the job done! 🍻 After losing the 🏏 Crossbats get the job done! 🍻 After losing the toss, we put NMCC in and kept things tight all afternoon. 👏 Gumbley (2-30), Skinner (2-33), Samin, Duncan, Chai and Craigo all chipped in as we restricted them to 221. Saturday Vignette – MHCC v Time Team 🏏 A fine sum Saturday Vignette – MHCC v Time Team 🏏 A fine summer afternoon saw Marble Hill Crossbats secure a convincing win over Time Team. After losing the toss, the Crossbats produced a strong all-round bowling display, led by Samin’s brilliant 4 wickets, with excellent support from Gazza, Hyder, Shahnawaz, Winchy and Adam. Time Team posted just over 200 from their 40 overs, with Rimmer carrying his bat for 50*. In reply, Winchy and Dan got things started before Chaitanya and Stavin kept the scoreboard moving. Graeme anchored the chase with a superb unbeaten 74*, while Adam joined him to see the side home comfortably in just 33 overs, leaving plenty of time to celebrate at The Crown. MATCH REPORT: Marble Hill Crossbats beat Northfiel MATCH REPORT: Marble Hill Crossbats beat Northfields CC by two wickets Another Sunday, another toss loss for Captain Anir. Thankfully, it continues to be a good omen, as Crossbats edged past Northfields by two wickets. Asked to field first, Hyder and Hingle took the new ball, and it quickly became Hyder’s day. He removed both openers early before Nolan and Vijay tightened the screws, with Nolan picking up a wicket to leave Northfields 63-3 at drinks. After the break, Skinner kept things tight while Hingle, Vijay and Subhan all chipped in with wickets. Hyder then returned to rip through the lower order, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul as Northfields finished on 130-9. A brilliant achievement... and an expensive one with the first round of jugs now on him. Chasing 131 looked straightforward, especially after Avi, batting on one functioning foot, blasted 67 before retiring hurt and backing the rest to finish the job. Instead, Crossbats made hard work of it. Preet (6) and Carter (3) fell early before Shahnawaz (10) and Vijay (21) steadied things. Skinner (4) was run out, Anir (5) fell to spin, and when Subhan (0) and Nolan (2) followed, the game was suddenly in the balance. With six still needed, Avi was reluctantly back in his whites in case he was needed. Thankfully, Hyder kept his cool and Hingle survived a dropped catch before smashing the winning boundary to seal a memorable two-wicket win. Another win, another lost toss, another Sunday where everything somehow worked out... and another match where Vijay was late.

Snowball led the way with a brilliant 69 off 84 balls ⭐, supported by Abbott’s classy 34, Masini’s 25 and valuable runs throughout the order as Crossbats posted 213. Believers came out swinging, with Watt smashing 43 and Briggs threatening to take the game away with an excellent 83. But Crossbats kept fighting 💪 Snowball completed a match-winning all-round performance with 3 wickets, supported by Skinner (8-0-21-1), Tucker, Khan and Winch. Special mention to Winch 🧤 — a stunning one-handed catch at long-on and a huge final-ball boundary catch that could have gone for four, sealing the win! Believers finished 203-9 🏏 🏆 Player of the Match: Snowball – 69 runs & 3 wickets ⭐ Jugs were drunk 🍻, Masini returned to the Marble Hill XI, and Crossbats are back to winning ways! 🫶🏼💪:

The Marble Hill Crossbats arrived at the Putney Cup knowing only one thing for certain: it was going to be hot. Semi-final vs Trafalgar: Captain Craig won the toss and chose to bat, but confidence was tested early as Winch (3) and Skinner (12) departed. Andy Snowball’s remarkable run of ducks continued with a commitment and consistency most batsmen can only dream of, before Aakash (18) and Shahnawaz (15) steadied the innings. Vijay then produced an excellent unbeaten 33, while a chaotic near run-out involving Carter somehow ended in survival. Whether it was quick thinking, blind luck or the heat remains unclear. Crossbats finished on 127. Trafalgar started well, but Skinner, Ben Snowball and Vijay struck at crucial moments. Backed by outstanding fielding, Crossbats restricted them to 107/4 and reached the final. Final vs Bricklayers:Skinner and Ben again made early breakthroughs before Hyder claimed three wickets and Aakash chipped in with another. Another superb fielding display restricted Bricklayers to 134. Then came the Snowball Show. Father and son walked out together on Father’s Day looking less like opening batsmen and more like two men preparing to storm a beach. Andy finally ended his duck epidemic with a composed 27, bringing relief to everyone tired of updating the duck statistics. Ben then produced a magnificent 67, making the chase look remarkably straightforward. Whether he inherited his talent from his father or it was simply excellent coaching remains up for debate. Winch added 18 before Aakash sealed victory with two overs to spare. Cue celebrations. Cue exhausted cricketers collapsing into the nearest patch of shade. And cue Captain Craig lifting the Putney Cup as Marble Hill Crossbats were crowned champions.

Wossy anchored beautifully with a well-crafted 62 🧱, Winch flew out of the blocks, and Anuj smashed a quick-fire 36 ⚡ — but a middle-overs wobble left us on 194. With the ball, Samin & Aakash squeezed the openers so hard one of them literally spelled out “N-O” to his partner mid-pitch 🙅 Shirley and Vijay struck, Avi pouched a beauty at slip, and at drinks we were cruising 🛋️ Then… the leak sprang. Match Report | 04/07/26 🏏 Crossbats made the long Match Report | 04/07/26 🏏 Crossbats made the long trip to Highgate Wood and were greeted by a pitch that made Richmond Park look like Lord’s. It had the bounce of a wet sponge, the pace of continental drift, and enough gremlins to keep everyone guessing. Batting first, we scraped our way to 70, which genuinely felt like 200 on this wicket. Justin King top-scored with 20, while Amandip Panesar (14) and Andrew Snowball (13) dug in after seeing off the new ball. With the ball, Craig Tucker struck early and Amandip ripped through the top order, reducing Strongroom to 3 down and giving us hope. Unfortunately, two stubborn batters settled in and saw Strongroom home. A tough loss, but plenty of fight shown. Bat first, make them chase leather in 30-degree heat. Simple. Anuj blasted the fastest 50 (apparently terrified of cramp), Winchie added another half-century, and Abbo (Abbott, not Aboriginal, and definitely no ASBO) smashed the club’s first-ever 💯 before retiring after a dropped skyer. Shirley and Samin struck early, Anir bagged 3, Craigo held onto a couple of catches (runs still proving elusive), and Skinner claimed a five-for after some “expert” bowling advice from Marble Hill’s resident failing batter, Craigo, at mid-on. Mind you, Skinner is a lawyer, so he knows how to make a case. The Itinerants were skittled for 70ish, and we immediately retired to The Crown for several well-earned jugs. After Yarl posted 205, the Crossbats bowlers kept things tight with Samin (3-25), Tucker (2-21), Diego (1-9) and Anuj (1-26) doing the damage. Special mention to Subhan, who recovered from three dead balls in his first over to finish with respectable figures of 0-23! The chase got off to a shaky start with Craig (2), Stavin (0) and Anuj (9) back in the pavilion early. Thankfully Diego (65) and Skinner (83) had other ideas, putting together the partnership that saved our skin. Skinner also managed the rare feat of running out Samin before he’d faced a ball! Day. 🌟 Anuj Suri walked to the crease and simply didn’t stop — 123 off just 79 balls*, 21 boundaries, retired with cramp and still the match winner by a mile. The man is unreal. 💯🔥 Stavin and Anuj set the tone up top, and kept it simple (why run when every other shot is a four? 🤷), and Vijay held the middle order together with a classy 36. Deano and Gumbley brought it home calm as you like. 😎 241/8 off 40 overs. Then it was time to bowl. Gumbley bamboozled with his trademark dippers, Aakash steamed in, and then Vijay ripped through with 4 wickets 💥 and Shirley bagged 3 — another near miss at a hat trick! Skinner sealed the deal. Despite Anir somehow turning 4 toss losses from 4 into good luck, Crossbats put in a clinical display with the ball. Samin (11-1) and Tucker (16-1) strangled Tabard early before Nolan, fuelled by two weeks without solid food, devoured the batting lineup with a superb 6-27. Hydra chipped in with 2-23 as Tabard were bundled out for 110 in 21 overs. Fielding highlight? Subhan sprinting after a looping ball completely unaware it was about to land on his head, only saved by 10 teammates screaming instructions. Miraculously, both man and ball survived. The chase was made harder than necessary. Andy fell for a duck, Paul (14), Preet (16), all departed after getting starts. At 38-3, Tabard sensed an opening. Craig (20) and Hingle (11) dug deep for the match defining partnership. Before Samin (27*) and Anir (14*), who calmly guided Crossbats home in 23 overs.
