16th April
Burgh Heath
1.00 H   MH Lost

A fantastic first match in the April sunshine with some fine new blood joining the team.

The day only slightly marred by the arrival of Spiro for a free lunch. Excellent performances from Biji and Christopher.

Yes we lost, but challenged a very strong opposition in a competitive contest.

23rd April
Richmond
1.00 H   MH Won On a beautifully sunny and strangely hot day for the Easter weekend, Crossbats assembled for the second game of the 2011 season. The fruits of Captain Wright’s winter recruitment drive were evident to see, as a group of eager youngsters set about what could only be described as a display of talent. Mixed in with this new generation, were several of the old “Greats” Read more here......

The Blues
1.00 H   MH Lost

Today’s opponents were the reputedly “weak” Blues, a regular fixture over the years for Crossbats.  On another sunny day, with an at times lively cross breeze, it was the Blues who won the toss and elected to have first bat at Marble Hill.  Due to various confusing and unusual reasons which I could not fully grasp, Crossbats were only able to field 10 men today. 7th May
Bank of England
2.00 A Won Game 4 saw Crossbats travel to the Bank of England sports ground in Roehampton on a temperate early May afternoon. In a sharp tactical move skipper Wright decided that taking the field after winning the toss was the key to stamping Crossbats authority of the day. Early wickets however were not at a premium as the Bank (presumably coached by Geoff Boycott and Cliff Tavare) Read more here.....

Eel Pie Island CC
1.00 H Won New opponents for Crossbats this week, Eel Pie Island playing only their second ever match.  Bringing a solid amateur approach to the game, the EP’s turned up with a crate of beer, happily got changed in the middle of a field and then informed Captain Wright that they would prefer to bat second in order to dampen their collective hangover. Read more here.....

Wind And the Willow
1.00 H Lost A strong line up was called for against these tough ex-Nottingham Uni lads who gave us a walloping last year and the guile of the Crossbats lads was at its height as pre-match preparation of copious amounts of Friday night lager saw eleven pasty faces at one o’clock.  Read more here....

Bank of England V Crossbats The Next Generation

Bank of England late August what a treat!

Crossbats new and old assemble at the handsome grounds and were greeted with the comforting sight of covers protecting the pitch from some earlier torrential downpours.

Wright was first to arrive immediately putting some physiological pressure on the oppo skipper about the promised late afternoon sunshine and excellent drainage facilities. Crossbats veteran Rapley was next to arrive with (40 years Mr Rapley’s junior) Mr Sookdeo. Read more here
